In the 19th century a Jewish community established itself in Themar; in 1865, five Jewish families moved from Bibra; in the following year, six Jewish families moved from Marisfeld. By the early 1900s, twenty-five families lived in Themar and between 1865-1943 more than 30 families made their home in Themar. As well, several individuals lived in Themar and they are listed separately below. Some came from nearby villages and worked in Themar; it is possible that others were related to Themar families and we have only to discover the link; of others, however, we have little or no sense of who they are.
